Organisational Good Practice Publication Grants

Sustainable improvement of outcomes for learners isn't just about the improvement of individual practice. Strategic and systematic organisational support is also critical to enhancing educational performance. This new funding initiative recognises and shares effective organisational strategies that have been shown to benefit learners.

The intention of this scheme is to celebrate and share interesting and creative organisational-wide practice that has been shown to benefit learners so that other organisations can consider adopting these techniques into their practices. The organisational GPPG scheme will showcase a suite of strategies rather than individual interventions/practices. Individual interventions/practices can be supported through our general GPPG scheme.

To be supported through this scheme, the organisational strategies must:

  • have been implemented for at least two years
  • have been systematically evaluated either by way of robust evaluation or independent research to demonstrate learner benefit
  • are subject to ongoing review

Funding available

The maximum grant allocation is $10,000 (GST inclusive).

Publications must be in the form of either a) a 2000 word summary accompanied by a digital video or multi-media presentation to a ‘professional standard’ of up to 10 minutes in length, or b) a 5000 word report with a brief executive summary.

A maximum of three grants are available during 2011.

Applications close 5pm Friday 18 November 2011

Eligibility

These grants are open to any recognised tertiary education organisation in New Zealand.

To be considered an ‘organisation’ the strategies should involve either the whole organisation, or, for larger organisations in particular, an operational unit within that organisation that offers a portfolio of programmes or services (e.g. a teaching department, college, faculty, learning support centre, or library). We would expect an organisational unit within a larger organisation to comprise a minimum of 10 full-time equivalent staff.

The Chief Executive Officer/Tumuaki or delegate may only endorse one application in each funding round.

Selection Process and Assessment Criteria

Successful applicants will be selected by a selection panel comprising Ako Aotearoa National Office staff and independent panellists.

The following will be used as the selection criteria:

  • The organisational strategies are interesting and creative.
  • The organisational strategies have the potential to influence other tertiary education organisations.
  • Where appropriate, the strategies make links with current research and/or literature.
  • There is robust and systematically collected evidence the organisational strategies are making a difference to learners.

Particular weight will be given to the fourth criterion above.
