Mentoring in education: Principles and practices
A series of workshops presented by Dr Lesley Peterson from EIT as part of Ako Aotearoa's Professional Development Programme.
About the workshop
"This workshop will help me formalise a mentoring programme with my organisation"
"The practical applications were great, particularly in evaluating the success of mentoring"
"Great to think and reflect on how to be a better mentor"
Research evidence shows that mentoring in tertiary education produces benefits for teachers and learners. This three hour workshop, facilitated by Dr Lesley Petersen, is designed for people interested in mentoring in the tertiary education context. It provides a range of resources developed from significant research and an Ako Aotearoa regional hub-funded project.
The workshop will introduce the components of a mentoring model and elaborate on the preparation necessary to ensure mentors and mentees are prepared and able to get the full benefits from a mentoring relationship. The material includes a collection of models, tools and strategies to assist participants in understanding their roles in a mentoring programme.
A follow-up evaluation will survey participants to track what use participants have made or intend to make of the workshop content.
Dr Lesley Petersen is Teacher Development Advisor at the Eastern Institute of Technology.
