Celebrating excellent teachers
A room full of passionate teachers who have recently been awarded for their excellence is a great place to spend a lunchtime event. The Northern Hub invited all the 2011 winners as well as previous years' winners to a lunch where they could meet one another and the Hub Advisory Group.
Pare Keiha, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean at Auckland University of Technology, and Convenor of the Northern Hub, welcomed everyone to the lunch and thanked them for what they give to students. Throughout the lunch, each of the new winners spoke briefly about what winning the award meant for them.

Paul Denny (UoA) and Welby Ings (AUT University)

Ksenija Napan (Unitec) and Tracey Poutama-Mackie (People Potential)

Robin Kearns (UoA) and Dawn Garbett (UoA)
They were followed by the previous years' winners. All spoke with passion about teaching, and how their lives have been enriched by winning the award. Confidence, leadership, a deeper understanding of what they do, have all been experienced throughout the process from preparing the portfolio to submit to the Awards panel, to the present time as members of the Ako Aotearoa Academy of Tertiary Teaching Excellence.
