The ACADEMY in 2009

Although still in its infancy the Academy has, to date, undertaken a number of exciting initiatives:

  • The Academy logo was developed in 2008 and now in use
  • The Business Plan, Terms of Reference have been prepared and accepted
  • An Executive Committee is now in place, led by Donna Buckingham
  • the 2008 Symposium was a resounding success.  Outputs on the website include:
    • Photos
    • Presentations from the main speakers
    • Engaging your students - from the Interactive Classroom Presenter Session - with links to many other useful sites
    • The Symposium Evaluation
  • The Academy Community on the Ako Aotearoa website continues to grow
  • LIMELIGHT regularly updates members with news from the Academy - 5 issues published by August 2009
  • 9 Academy members have contributed articles to the Education Review in the year up to August 2009
  • The Academy was represented on the Tertiary Teaching Awards judging panel by Lisa Emerson
  • 5 regional groups are now established.  The Massey TE@M are making headway in promoting teaching in their own organisation.  The Waikato group are planning a number of initiatives across institutions in the region.  Christchurch, Dunedin and Auckland have had their first meetings.
  • A database of TTEA mentors has been established and the volunteer mentors will be kept up to date with changes to the criteria
  • A FAQ sheet has been prepared and posted to the website for potential TTEA applicants
  • A database of members and their expertise/interests has been established and available on the website
  • 2 Academy funding streams are being developed and will be available to Academy members in August 2009
  • Promotional material in the form of an informative brochure and also A5 pads are now available
  • At least five of the 2009 TTEA Awardees were mentored by Academy members
  • Implemented a 'Buddy" system for new awardees
