Academy hosts Otago teachers at PeerWise demonstration
The Academy held their first regional event in Otago at the beginning of February.
Academy member Paul Denny from the University of Auckland presented his PeerWise software to two groups of teachers from the Otago region in the first of the Academy's regional events.
PeerWise is web based learning tool that supports students in the creation of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with model answers and associated explanations. Paul's demonstration gave the 34 participants, from across the lower South island, the opportunity to have a hands-on session with the tool where they were able to realise the potential benefits of its use for students and educators. A number of teachers have already expressed interest in adopting the tool in their environment.
Assistance in the planning and organisation of the event was provided by both the University of Otago and the Otago Polytechnic.
PeerWise is freely available, easy for educators to adopt, and has been used in over 120 courses at 21 institutions. For more information about PeerWise please go here.
The Academy has a number of other regional activities planned through the year, the next being the SPOTLIGHT on Tertiary Teaching in Canterbury and Beyond to be held on 26th March in Christchurch.
Academy member John Reynolds, from the University of Otago uses PeerWise to create multiple choice questions for his students.
