Academy Members INSPIRE teachers at Wintec's Staff Professional Development festival
Academy members help spread the word about teaching and learning at Wintec Festival
Wintec held their first Professional Development festival on the 13th August providing all staff an opportunity to attend a variety of sessions around teaching, learning, professional development and well being.
Emeritus Professor Phil Race, ‘Senior Fellow’ of the Higher Education Academy in the UK and his wife Professor Sally Brown, Professor of Higher Education Diversity in Learning, at Leeds Metropolitan University and also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, ran a number of sessions throughout the day on themes linked to assessment, learning and teaching in higher education. For some great tips and ideas around teaching and assessment go here.
Academy members also freely gave their time to help make the event a huge success.
Welby Ings, entralled his audience with his story telling techniques and soon they were sharing stories themselves.
Peter Mellow provided assistance with IT issues at a drop in centre.
Marc Wilson held the audiences attention with facts and figures about people and their personalities while Julia Bruce facilitated a session around teaching exemplars using quick fire talks and speed dating.
The event closed with a hilarious debate around whether tertiary education's main mission was to provide students with sex and teachers with car parks or not. Marc Wilson and Peter Mellow provided their own opinions on opposing sides of the debate. Here, Peter, with the help of Stuart Middleton (MIT) tries very hard to convince the audience that men can do two things at once.
