2009 Symposium:
The dates for the Symposium have been set for the 28th, 29th and 30th October 2009
"Turning Vision into promising Practice"
Members will have the opportunity to attend a number of workshops on the afternoon of the 28th and the Symposium will begin at 9:00am on the 29th going through to about 5:30pm on the 30th. The programme will give most willing members the chance to participate and will also address many of the issues raised in your assessments of the last Symposium.
Further information will be forwarded to you all at a later date but in the meantime make sure you put the dates in your calendar.
Who is doing what:
- Academy members from Massey University have continued to make progress towards the development of a formal group of national and local award winners. In February a forum was held for all recipients and attended by the Vice Chancellor, representatives of the Centre for Academic Development and E-Learning, and other interested parties. The forum was an opportunity to discuss the formalisation of the group, as well as the possible contributions to be made to the University to raise the profile for teaching. In early March, work began on exploring a mentoring and informal peer review process for teaching staff at the University. The group plans to meet again in the coming weeks to continue this initiative as a regional group. It is very exciting to have the support from senior staff in the University as we begin to define teaching excellence in our changing environment.
- Julia Bruce will be a keynote speaker at the TASDEN conference on the 27 March and will also be presenting a Teaching Techniques workshop to a group of PTE’s in the Manawatu.
- Peter Mellow, representing the Academy, will be speaking at the Brightstar Conference in Wellington on 6 and 7 April 2009.
- Juliet Gerrard has been appointed to the Mardsen Fund Council. She will be convening the Cellular, Molecular and Physiological Biology Panel. http://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/new+panel+members+marsden+fund+council
- A number of members have submitted (through the committee) articles for the Education Review. If you would like to contribute please contact the editor.
