Gaining Student engagement

The goal in 1998 was to help more Maori pursue a police career in the NZ Police in Northland.

The three focus areas that was my difference in successfully gaining student engagement and positive results are:

Belief in the Individual

- I never doubted the individual, 'when they know what they want and they think they can – then we’re half way there'. When you get it right and inspire people its MAGIC! We got it right and continue to do so today.

Getting the middle right - A correlation of disciplines and standards required by prospective industry was the culture of the learning environment and organisation. We gained credibility – locally, regionally and nationally. "Hikoi te korero"

Results - We've made a National significant difference -  To date the 'Fitting the Bill' programme has an 85% successful pass rate, has increased both Maori and Female Police personnel, a 2 year waiting list for personnel wanting to police in Northland and we continue to contribute to the NZ Police national recruitment goal.
