Learning Advisor Resource Repository

Are you interested in a project to set up a national or international Learning Advisors resource repository? We could use this ATLAANZ site, or join Otago Polytechic's Learning Advisor Wikieducator site (or set up our own), or our ATLAANZ site on GoogleGroups, though that would be restricted to ATLAANZ members only. - or any other site. What do you think? Please add your thoughts and comments here and let's get some discussion going!

thanks very much Toni. I'm
thanks very much Toni. I'm very happy to hear that and am keen to do whatever I can to help.
Well supported
Hi there Justin
Thanks for your comments. I feel that this site is very well supported by you and it has been a great and easy experience for me using this Ako website. It would be great if others were able to join in and share their ideas too.
Regards
Toni
Hi Toni, I'm Ako Aotearoa's
Hi Toni,
I'm Ako Aotearoa's website manager. We'd certainly be very happy for you to have a repository such as this on this website, and I'd do whatever I can to help you achieve this.
I think that advantages of our website include -
But you should certainly choose whatever solution suits you best, and whatever solution you choose, I'll happily do what I can to promote it on our site.

name change
Hi Helen
Thanks for making the change. Caitriona contacted me as well. As I had chosen a site (this one) with open membership so that all Learning Advisors could join in the debate, (not just ATLAANZ members) I realised it probably was a good decision to change the name. I'm hoping some of our Australian colleagues will join in the discussion!

Wikieducator new URL
Hello all,
The URL to the Learning Advisors collaborative project creating resources for Tertiary Study Skills is at:
http://wikieducator.org/Tertiary_Learning_Advisors
There are very good self paced tutorials to learn how to edit a wiki http://wikieducator.org/Tutorials if you would like to start to contribute to this resource.

Helen
Name change
Hi Toni,
Yes I have had some correspondence with Catriona and the committee were not best pleased to have the use of ATLAANZ on wikieducator, so I suggested the name "Tertiary Learning Advisors Collaborative Project: Resources for Tertiary Study Skills". This might be a bit long so maybe we just go with your suggestion of "Tertiary Learning Advisors" . Why did you change the name of this site?
Helen
Change of name
Hi Helen
As I have changed the name of this site, I think it would be a good idea to also change the name on the Wikieducator site. Do you think that you would be able to organise to have it changed to Tertiary Learning Advisors? Thanks so much
Toni
fantastic
Hi there Helen
This is great - thanks so much for doing this. I might start using this site for my resources - and I need to read up on the creative commons licence to see if I can copy the reources onto my Learning Advice moodle site or just use them as links (if I want students to have access to them).
Thanks again
Toni
wikieducator - Develop skills ...
Hi Toni et al,
I mentioned to one of my colleagues here that ATLAANZ members may be reluctant to contribute to resources on wikieducator because so far they are branded as Otago Polytechnic and he immediately went in and rebranded them ATLAANZ. The heading page can now be found at
http://www.wikieducator.org/ATLAANZ
If any ATLAANZ members wish to collaborate on this project they are warmly welcomed. If another online portal is preferred then please let everybody know where (and maybe why) so it can be a collaborative effort.
I have been told that the editing on wikieducator is soon to become a lot easier (probably more like typing into a word processor). Presently there is considerable syntax required, however once this is learned it can be used with other wiki's such as wikipedia. A useful skill to have.
Regards,
Helen
repository
Hi Toni,
I totally understand your reservation about building resources under the name of somebody else's institution - it should most definately be branded ATLAANZ. I will speak to wikied's admin and see what can be done about changing this - if this is the preferred platform to use. To be honest I had never considered this aspect.
I would love to get a few more ATLAANZ people collaborating on student support materials, which reminds me I must renew my ATLAANZ membership as well!
Cheers,
Helen
Interest or time?
Hi there Helen
It was great to see your comments on the forum. Thanks for adding your thoughts. It was your WikiEducator site that got me inspired to look at collaborative pooling of resources in the first place!
I don't know if it's lack of interest, lack of time, lack or perceived relevance or anxiety about using Internet-based tools that has got in the way of looking at this concept. My presentation at the conference seemed to go down quite well, and Jenny Marshall gave a presentation that was similar in terms of using Web 2.0 tools. About 10 people said they were interested in continuing the discussion - but perhaps they lost interest as it took me awhile to get my ATLAANZ subscription renewed and inform people of this site?
It seems that many possible sites have drawbacks - the resources you have on the Otago Polytech site are great and would be good to build on - but it is under Otago's name and I wonder if people would prefer to have a Learning Advisors' site on WikiEducator? The ATLAANZ site could work well but it would restrict use as only ATLAANZ members could use it. This Ako site could be investigated to see if it would work. If a few more people show interest, perhaps we should begin a collaborative project to get something started?
It's great that you are still interested in developing and sharing collaborative resources - and that Otago has a Creative Commons IP. I have been re-writing our Copyright handbook at NorthTec and wish more resources were under Creative Commons Licences.
Let's keep this conversation going.
Kind regards
Wikieducator or AKO Aotearoa ?
Hi Toni,
Fancy finding you here?
It seems to me that there is perhaps a resistance to collaboration online among the ATLAANZ group? I am interested in knowing how your presentation at conference went last year? When I initially started building resources on wikieducator I made a call to all ATLAANZ members for collaboration and had one very reserved response.
I think I will still continue to use wikied as a platform even though the editing is a bit clunky - though this is reputed to be changing for the better soon. It has the potential for international collaboration and isn't dependant on government funding for it's existence. Plus of course I have already made a start there.
This site could certainly act as a link to wikieducator resources and be a place to talk, plan, view files etc. But then what about the ATLAANZ website - shouldn't that perform that function?
I am currently working on the TEC funded project to embed literacy and numeracy in our institution and it looks as though folk involved in this project nationally may use this site for collaborative efforts. However most of us have our own Moodle sites which we are building resources in so will allow guest access to these - hopefully. - We all have different IP policies so this is not clear.
Collaborative research projects will probably be through AKO site.
I am delighted that you have continued to carry the torch for collaboration and I for one am keen to support whatever efforts are made to do this. My focus has shifted a little this year, more towards supporting staff rather than students, but I am still developing student support materials. Otago Polytechnic has a creative commons IP policy so anything we create is free to use (I think).
Look forward to hearing from you again soon,
Helen
