what would you like from this ePortfolios community?

Justin Sampson's picture

what sort of activity or content would you like to see in this ePortfolios community?

My thoughts -

  • I'd like a focus on NZ material and activity, with reference to useful overseas material.
  • It would be good to hear more about what NZ tertiary organisations are doing (or planning to do) with ePortfolios - I'll start another forum topic to ask about what your institution is doing
  • case studies with what works well, what doesn't, etc would be great.
  • ideas for collaborative projects (maybe with a mind to apply for Ako Aotearoa funding)
  • cater for people with a range of experience with ePortfolios - from those who nothing to those who have a lot of experience
  • participation from across the whole tertiary education sector (ITPs, universities, wānanga, workplace learning/ITOs, PTEs, etc) would be good.
  • obviously Mahara's a very popular tool in this area, but there are already other places for discussing issues specific to using Mahara
  • news of any upcoming events/presentations that others could participate in

Although I work for Ako Aotearoa and manage this website (and am happy to spend some of my time helping to 'manage/moderate' this community), I don't want to be at all prescriptive about how this community should operate or what activities it should undertake.

So please let everyone know your thoughts.

cheers, Justin

Suggestions

I agree Mark - Justin's suggestions are comprehensive and cover most of what I had in mind. I also like the idea of a 'national' ePortfolio as a means of ensuring portability and sustainability (we are lifelong learners, after all). I'm just getting to grips with Mahara and so far, so good - I'll keep you posted as to how I get on!

Suggestions look good

Hi Justin,

A great set of suggestions here. I am particularly interested in getting the 'heads up' on any links or research that would be of interest to us all. I wonder, too, if eventually we might consider making a case for an ePortoflio for all in New Zealand. It was certainly in theback of our minds as we developed Mahara, and would lead to a sustainable ePortfolio presence for our students beyond their time with us.

Cheers,

Mark.

Looking forward to engaging

Looking forward to engaging in lively, provocative discussions, Hazel! I'm just getting to grips with my own Mahara ePortfolio and, once I've developed it a little more, I'd be more than happy to share it ....

Just having the space:-)

Hello Justin,

For me just having the space is great:-)  For me it's 'not knowing what I don't know'!

Already, just knowing who else around NZ have a similar interest has been helpful.

Many thanks

What would be good :-)

Thanks, Justin for setting up this space!

It would be great if we could share ideas, experiences, woes, and resources...and have lively, provocative discussions. Perhaps, also, there may be opportunities for people to get together (either virtually and/or face-to-face). A final thought would be to share our own ePortfolios. (I'm partciularly keen on this one as we are finding that faculty who are setting up their own ePortfolios appear to be in a better position to recognise their full potential as a lifelong learning forum, as well as for showcase, assessment etc.).

Look forward to seeing what everyone else's thoughts are. Cheers. Hazel
