Are you interested in ‘meeting’ with staff at different polytechnics, who are working in the same area and struggling with the same L & N challenges, or keen to share their successes?

If there is sufficient interest, ‘meetings’ will be set up in Adobe Connect for:
• vocational lecturers, who are embedding L & N,
• lecturers teaching foundation skills/ tertiary study skills
• staff teaching Youth Guarantee.

Adobe Connect is similar to Skype. You can talk, listen and share documents. Otago Polytech can host the Adobe Connect meetings – your institution doesn’t need to have it.

Meeting online

Greetings from the USA! I teach Automotive Technology to high school students. I have seen some articles about Auto Shop teaching strategies in your part of the world while doing my Master's research. Anyone who might be willing to share ideas regarding teaching strategies/curriculum improvement, please let me know. My students build at least one military HMMWV each year, on top of their civilian vehicle repairs. I have begun to incorporate a new system this year, whereby students are guided through repairs using manuals(electronic and hardcopy) and lots of oversight by me, prior to receiving classroom lecture. I am also using oral final exams, and students are required to have 100% on them prior to passing. This often involves retests, but ultimately they leave knowing everything I taught, rather than the paltry 70% required by the academic side of the house. Any ideas for further improvement would be greatly appreciated. Cheers! -Brian Sneed
