Kia ora koutou - Southern Educational Developers (SED) welcome to the second 'poster project' update.
We have been making steady progress on the "Teaching adults poster and learning object project."
The following steps are now completed:
a) Confirmation of funding from Ako Aotearoa
b) Approval by the CPIT Faculty of Health, Humanities and Science academic research committee
c) Approval by the CPIT human ethics academic research committee
d) Signed off by the CPIT CEO to ensure funding from Ako Aotearoa
e) Creation of a list of texts for about four dozen possible posters:
This list has been arrived at by a process of collation and selection from a wide range of sources, including internet searches, e.g. http://www.artcostacentre.com/html/posters.htm ; course booklets from a Certificate in Adult Teaching programme; posters currently used at CPIT; various whakatauki; collected sayings and proverbs about education / teaching and learning; literature searches of significant contributors to the scholarship of learning, e.g. Tuijnman, A.C. (Ed.) (1996). International encyclopedia of adult education and training; staff developers brainstorms.
The list will be provided at our forthcoming meeting (see below).
So, what now? How can you help? We need to work towards a consensus over key messages that underpin teaching and learning principles for adults. In preparation, please consider the following question: "What core principles do you personally believe underpin your teaching and learning?”
Bring along your views to share with others in the SED group at our next meeting on Wednesday 8 April 2009 between 10am and 3pm, at the Ako Aotearoa meeting room at 51 Solway Avenue, Christchurch. They will help us to formulate criteria to select from a large number of possible options.
My goal that day is to achieve some consensus (he wrote optimistically) as to what are the top 10 messages that will appear on posters and electronic resources specifically designed to support the teaching of adult educators in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Then I will use these messages when designing a series of posters. These will be translated into electronic formats, e.g. PDF files, Flash-animated learning objects, which may be used in online or in blended learning environments.
In Phase 2, after June 2009, we will test these in our classrooms / online courses and collect feedback from our student teachers.
cheers
Gerard Duignan
