Kia eke ki te taumata - Success for Maori in tertiary education
A full-day workshop presented as part of Ako Aotearoa's Professional Development Programme.
About the workshop
"the workshop has given me the confidence to change"
This akomanga (workshop) is designed for all educators (Māori and non- Māori) who work with Māori learners.
Through reflection, discussion and practical activities, participants will make connections to their own teaching context and explore some of the key findings from studies that investigated:
- enhancing success rates for Māori learners
- teaching with the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- understanding Māori learners
- implementing Kaupapa Māori.
Note: In response to feedback, the workshop has now been extended to a full-day format so that participants can conduct a more in-depth application of the key findings to their own contexts.
The facilitator, Ngahiwi Apanui (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Hine and Te Whānau a-Apanui), Kaihautū Māori at Ako Aotearoa, will tailor the akomanga to ensure that it meets the needs of participants.
The follow-up evaluation will assist participants to track how the links they developed to their own context at the akomanga progress to enhanced learner outcomes.
More workshops will be scheduled for later in the year. Check back here for confirmed dates and locations.
