Knowing Practice is a study of practice-based learning across different occupations. In the trades, practice-based learning is usually called “apprenticeship”. In information technology industries, it’s known as “cadetship”. In the later stages of formal learning in medicine, social work, and teaching, it’s “practicum” or vocational “immersion”.
This project focuses on testing a new collaborative approach to mentoring between an employer, Downer NZ, and four ITO's: Infratrain, ESITO, Water IT, and NZHITO.
This research focuses on the on-job workplace learning assessment system and is an organisational level study. We want to learn about improving organisational capability – the system – in order to improve learning outcomes for trainees.
This collaboration will develop shared ITP online resources to enable sector wide delivery of three national diplomas in building and construction.
