Professor Whatarangi Winiata, Ngāti Raukawa, Te Wānanga o Raukawa
Whatarangi Winiata currently holds the position of president of the Māori Party and is associated with the Purutanga Mauri. He also contributes to the development of the Whakatupu matauranga (research centre) of Te Wānanga o Raukawa (TWOR).
Whatarangi established (1975) and directed a 25-year programme in development for the Confederation of Te Ati Awa, Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Toarangatira. He established in 1981 Te Wānanga o Raukawa, a Māori tertiary education institution. He has held several governance posts in Aotearoa; New Zealand Māori Council, Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa, Te Runanga o Raukawa, Otaki Porirua Trust Board, Crown Forestry Rental Trust, General Synod of the Anglican Church, St John’s College Trust Board and Broadcasting Corporation of New Zealand.
