In this study, we aim to define mathematical maturity and develop pedagogy to help students improve this skill. We aim to help students develop their mathematical thinking and reasoning skills, mathematical transfer skills, and overall mathematical performance.
This project aimed to enhance tertiary STEM students’ generic thinking skills through the regular use of puzzles, paradoxes and sophisms (PPS) as a pedagogical strategy.
This project developed and evaluated a suite of scenarios that can be used as real-time role-plays that enhance communication skills. Through these role-plays, learners can gain experience in realistic and challenging situations where they need to rapidly respond in an uncertain environment, and effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders.
This multi-disciplinary project plans to identify educational outcomes that enhance student attributes and capabilities beyond those normally identified on academic transcripts and develop tools to observe, analyse and report them.
Six New Zealand tertiary institutions are engaged in a collaborative network of practice around learners and mobile devices, examining the ways in mobility, social media and new approaches to learning and teaching are changing the landscape of education. The project will generate a range of practical strategies for students, teachers and leaders to utilise the affordances of mobile devices for pedagogical transformation and empowering learners.
Engaging learners effectively in science, technology and engineering: The pathway from secondary to university education
This project sought to help universities understand how to better engage learners in the sciences. Research compared the learning environments at secondary school and first year of university with the aim of developing a model for improved transition between the two.
