Education for Sustainability: What Does this Mean for Tertiary Chemistry?
This study explores the contribution which could be made by chemistry higher education to education for sustainability. It postures this research in the context of environmental imperatives placing a number of responsibilities on education practitioners to integrate sustainable education into their praxis.
This project involved a survey of the literature on sustainability, as well as an examination of the ways in which tertiary chemistry courses already integrate sustainability principles into their teaching. In addition, it investigates the ways in which education for sustainability might gain resonance in the tertiary sector, through the incorporation of various principles into the teaching and operation of New Zealand tertiary organisations.
